How do I know if I have a grub problem?

Grubs are the larvae of the June beetle or Japanese Beetle.  The beetle flies around for a period of time and then lands in your lawn and leaves eggs, the eggs hatch and need to feed on something so they eat the roots of your lawn. Grubs usually hatch in August or September.  You may see bird pecking at your lawn, raccoons tearing up your lawn or other animals tearing up your lawn.  They like to eat the grubs.  If you can peel back your lawn kind of like a roll of sod, then you probably have a grub problem.  An infestation of 10-12 grubs per sq.ft. will damage your lawn.

LAWN TIP

In the Spring you will see grubs in the soil if you are planting bushes or flowers, this is normal.  You may see a few grubs in the soil where you are planting, but they are not a problem for your lawn.
